xcurated, was a curatorial collective that focused on the visual arts, creativity, and community. It was comprised of local arts professionals Jocelyn Purdie, Riva Symko and Matthew Hills. The collective endeavoured to engender an increased appreciation of, and literacy for, the visual arts in Kingston. Art in Public Places (APP) Kingston was intended to connect Kingstonians to their vital visual arts community, contribute to the discussion of public art and increase awareness and value of the visual arts generally while nurturing curatorial practice locally.
Responding, at the time, to the ongoing efforts of the City of Kingston to cultivate a Public Art Policy as one component of the Kingston Culture Plan, APP consisted of six thematically related visual art installations in public spaces across the city of Kingston. The project was launched on May 12, 2012 with a guided bus tour of the installation sites. APP Kingston culminated with a public round table discussion of public art in the context of Kingston.
