Neighbourhood Watch

15 May  – 30 June, 2004

Neighbourhhood Watch, an installation and performance project by artist Jan Allen, enacts theatrical tendencies that infuse the relationship between private domestic space and the street. The open performance ran from 3-5pm and the residual stage remained on view.  Neighbourhood Watch uses old-fashioned analogue surveillance to enact the idea of neighbourhood as a network of mutual observation in which proximity breeds awareness of habits and associations.

The Neighbourhood Watch performance blended conceptual art practice with drop-in neighbourhood social: guests circulated between positions as audience, performing subjects, and celebrants.
