The Space Between

09 July 2004 – 15 August 2004

The Space Between used the SWW site for an examination of the difference or gulf between private lives and public faces.  The work explores the notion of façade and the space between what we perceive and what we make to stand in its place as an entry into the whole notion of the interstice of the human construct – the potential space between our mediated perception and a reality. The large-scale billboard-like painting was installed on the front lawn of the site. The 8-foot painting, consists of a couple embracing on a back drop of a multi-layered camouflage patterned canvas, serves a mnemonic function while also metaphorically referring to the act of presenting an external face or façade.
