Heather Smith

Kingston Tour Series

Heather Smith presented a series drawings depicting “uncelebrated landmarks” in the form of post cards and bus advertisements that mimic local tourism and civic pride. Smith uses the visual cues of tourism to create a different visual identity for the city; one that encompasses landmarks recognized on the day-to-day travels of Kingstonians. These drawings use the transit system of the bus to direct audiences to these Kingston landmarks, presenting here the City buses as Kingston tour buses in their own right.

Heather Smith is an emerging artist who completed her BFAH at Queen’s University. She works primarily in printmaking, and will be producing works this year at Open Studio in Toronto as the recipient of the Don Phillips Scholarship.
